United to offer rapid COVID-19 testing on select flights from NYC to London

United Airlines is making it easier to go abroad by launching the world’s first “COVID-free flights” this week — opening up the New York/London corridor by using rapid testing. The company announced the move on Twitter this week noting: “We’re launching the world’s first free transatlantic COVID-19 testing program.

“Offered 11/16 — 12/11 on select flights from New York/Newark — London, this pilot program guarantees all customers over 2 and crew on board test negative before departure.”

The first plane took off on November 17, landing in Heathrow and all crew members and passengers were tested for the coronavirus before before flying. Only prospective passengers who test negative will be permitted to fly.

“We believe the ability to provide fast, same-day COVID-19 testing will play a vital role in safely reopening travel around the world and navigating quarantines and travel restrictions, particularly to key international destinations like London,” Toby Enqvist, chief customer officer for United, said in a statement to the Robb Report.
