Shrimp for everyone! The Good Place is forking renewed for season 3

In unsurprising but nevertheless much welcome news, NBC announces today that it is renewing sophomore series The Good Place for a third 13-episode season. Michael Schur’s afterlife comedy has somehow built on its impressive season-one mind-twisting finale to become the most philosophical—to say nothing of funniest—sitcom out there, wrestling with ethics and consequential action as it tosses out visual gags like an endless shrimp dispenser with multiple sauces.

Although the show averages a 2.0 rating among adults 18-49 (6.2 million total viewers), The Hollywood Reporter notes that “when additional platform viewing is taken into account, the show’s ratings grows to a 2.6 in the key demo,” an increase from last season. So The Good Place episodes available on Hulu and NBC.com the day after the show airs are also helping to boost ratings.

The Good Place’s current 13-episode season returns on January 4, hopefully picking up where we left off with Janet’s romantic anguish now that she’s offed Derek, Jason and Tahani’s blossoming relationship (but what about Eleanor and Chidi?), and Michael continuing to try to improve himself… or is he? After that first-season finale, we feel like we’ll never really know for sure. But we’re looking forward to (at least) another season to try to figure it all out.
