Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards Caught Swearing at Referee on Hot Mic With Comic Level of Enthusiasm

Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards has never been one to mince words, no matter the situation.

On Friday, for instance, Edwards nonchalantly told ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith he was better than Dallas Mavericks guard Luka Dončić and Oklahoma City Thunder guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander. At 22, he is part of a generation that eschews traditional media relations norms, matching rising stars in the worlds of music and television.

That applies on the court as well. On Saturday, Edwards argued a foul call with a candor so startling it was easily picked up by in-arena microphones.

Attempting a runner late in the third quarter against the Brooklyn Nets, Edwards believed he was hit by Nets forward Cameron Johnson.

“Hey! That’s a f—ing foul, man!” Edwards yelled in the direction of veteran official Tom Washington.

Washington issued Edwards a technical for the outburst, easily audible on YES Network’s feed.

Undeterred, Edwards helped the Timberwolves take a four-point lead entering the fourth quarter.
