Travel

Letters to the Editor — Nov. 30, 2021

The Issue: Dr. Anthony Fauci’s COVID advice, as the new Omicron variant threatens to spread worldwide.

I find it incredible that Dr. Anthony Fauci still has a job (“He’s Got To Go,” PostOpinion, Betsy McCaughey, Nov. 29).

He has been wrong, evasive or outright lied on almost every count, except that COVID is lethal.

Fauci first said we don’t know enough about Omicron to ban flights from sub-Saharan Africa. Then he says it may already be here.

It’s past time Fauci resign or be fired from his position as President Biden’s COVID adviser.

He’s lost all credibility with most of the American people by showing himself as nothing more than a left-wing hack.

His eventual advice on the recently detected Omicron was to shut down travel from Africa, but he’s letting Biden leave open our southern border.

Not only does that reek of hypocrisy and medical foolishness, but it’s comparable to a doctor telling a patient that although an X-ray has detected a pre-cancerous lung tumor, it’s OK to keep smoking.

Biden must terminate the flip-flopping Fauci before thousands more become ill or die due to his denial of reality, facts and science.

Another COVID variant has emerged in South Africa and now Sleepy Joe has issued a travel ban on South Africa starting Monday (“Travel ban on African countries,” Nov. 27).

Why wait, you ask?

Well, the master of double-speak, Dr. Fauci, last week said it was too early.

Is Biden going to apologize to former President Donald Trump for calling him a racist for banning travel to China in the early days of the pandemic? Trump’s ban on travel to and from the country where the virus began undoubtedly saved thousands of American lives.

Michael Quane

South Hempstead

When Trump instituted a travel ban with China, he was called a racist; now that Biden has done the same thing, there’s not a peep from the liberal community.

If this variant was as serious as they say, the ban would’ve gone into effect immediately and applied to all countries where the new variant has been detected, like Belgium and Israel.

Yet the citizenship of the traveler is irrelevant: You either ban everyone or allow in everyone who tests negative. That is logical and scientific. Even better “equitable.”

What Biden is doing is white American privilege on steroids.

Wayne L. Johnson

Alexandria, Va.

Biden delayed his African travel ban on the advice of Fauci-led advisers, but a travel ban is either wise or it isn’t, right. If it is, do it immediately. If not, don’t do it at all.

James A. Nollet

Milkowice, Poland

Fauci advised Biden to delay travel from South Africa despite the fact that he said it’s likely here already. The reason for the delay was a result of pure logistics dictated by the airlines, the State Department, and diplomatic intricacies.

The Omicron variant is another media distraction. So far the original cases in South Africa have been mild, not associated with hospitalization and no increasing death rates so far.

When are we going to move from the number of cases to the number of cases per capita and death rates per capita and hospitalizations per capita?

After all, the only thing that really matters is not whether you test positive for COVID but how sick you are and what is your risk for hospitalization or dying as a result.

If people aren’t dying or being hospitalized after vaccination, this is much ado about nothing.

For those who don’t take the vaccine, they do so at their own risk and society should not have to worry about them.
