2 People Found Dead in Merrimack River: Lowell Police

Lowell Police are investigating the deaths as an apparent drowning

Two people were found dead in the Merrimack River from apparent drowning early Saturday morning, authorities said.

A fisherman in Lowell discovered a male body around 6:30 a.m. near Aiken Street behind LeLacheur Park, according to Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan.

When they arrived, Lowell Police also found the body of a woman in the same area.

Both people were found fully clothed with no apparent signs of trauma, Lowell police said. They have not yet been identified.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has taken custody of the bodies to determine the cause of death.

The investigation is ongoing.
