Another Snowstorm On The Way To DC?

As the region digs out from double-digit snow totals in some areas, forecasters say more snow could be on its way.

WASHINGTON, DC -- The weekend snowstorm blasted forecasters' expectations, dropping double-digit snow totals in some areas. And there may be more of it on the way next weekend.

That's far from certain -- it's tough to make that sort of prediction a full week out. But forecasters are certainly watching weather conditions this weekend closely, and they see some strong potential for more snow.

"By Thursday night, we may see a mix of snow and rain before perhaps a more significant episode of wintry weather over the weekend," write the Washington Post's Capital Weather Gang.

Thursday may bring some wet snow and sleet and then transition to light rain, but those clouds start to increase on Saturday and snow may develop late in the day as temperatures drop from the 40s into the 30s. Just like this past weekend, the snow could begin late Saturday and continue overnight into Sunday.

Right now, CWG doesn't rank the snow potential very high -- a 2 out of 10 -- but that is largely a result of being so far out, and it could change as the week progresses.

"Down for now, but might rise back up as we close in on next weekend . . . gulp," they wrote.

The National Weather Service says that "rain and snow likely" on both Saturday and Sunday, with a chance of participation between 60-80 percent. It doesn't make any prediction with regards to accumulation.

The Weather Channel makes a similar prediction, noting that they are "watching a potential winter storm."
