Jets’ Robert Saleh Won’t Address Report About Possible Zach Wilson Trade

A report on Friday from quarterback Zach Wilson’s hometown paper, the Deseret News, stated that sources said the Jets were planning to trade the quarterback in the offseason.

The report noted that coach Robert Saleh and Wilson mutually agreed to a trade after the season. As this would be major news for the Jets, Saleh was asked about this report on Monday and whether there was any truth to it.

Saleh would not confirm nor deny the report, and he didn’t want to disclose any information in conversations he’s had with players, per ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Another reporter asked Saleh if Wilson is included in the team’s discussions of the 2024 season. He left that window open.

“Anything can happen, especially in this sport,” Saleh said, adding that Wilson needs to focus on week-to-week for now.

It’s important to note that this report came out before one of Wilson’s best performances on Sunday. He threw for 301 yards and two touchdowns in the team’s dominant 30–6 win over the Texans. This was his first game back after being demoted the previous two games.

Wilson has had a rocky season as he took over the starting role in the first game of the season when Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on the first drive of the year. Through 11 games, he’s posted an average quarterback rating of 32.2.

Saleh hasn’t confirmed if Wilson will officially start for the Jets in Week 15’s matchup against the Dolphins.
