Alexandria youth teams produce big seasons

The Alexandria boys and girls varsity hockey programs both had another winning season this winter, and programs within Alexandria’s feeder system are also in the midst of wrapping up productive campaigns.

Bantam A team heads to state

The Alexandria Cardinals Bantam A team qualified for the state tournament that it will play in this weekend, March 13-15.

Alexandria got the No. 1 seed in the West Region after beating Moorhead and Northern Lakes at the district tournament. The Bantam A’s won a 6-0 game over Cambridge Isanti to open up region play, and goaltender Beck Liden earned a shutout over Osseo-Maple Grove in the semifinals with 29 saves in a 2-0 victory. That secured a spot in the regional finals against Northern Lakes, where Alexandria won 8-3 to advance to state.

Bantam B1 advances to regions

The Alexandria Bantam Black team advanced to the region tournament before their season ended.

Alexandria took second in the district tournament, allowing it to move on to the West Region Tournament in Little Falls.

Other season highlights included a first-place finish at the Roseau Tournament and at Alexandria’s home tournament. The Bantam Blacks also placed third at a tournament in Fargo. The team spent parts of this season ranked No. 1 in the Youth Hockey Hub NOW rankings and were top 10 in staff rankings throughout the season.

12UA team racks up 27 wins

The Alexandria Cardinals 12UA girls team wrapped up a productive season with a 27-8-4 overall record.

Season accomplishments for this group included a first-place finish in its home Big Ole Tournament. The 12UA team won its district tournament and finished third at the region tournament to fall just short of a state bid. Alexandria also finished third at both the YHH Danglefest Tournament and at its tournament in Woodbury.

12UB team surpasses 30 wins

The Alexandria Cardinals 12UB girls team wrapped up its season with a 32-10-1 record.

The team went 2-2 at the regional tournament after qualifying for that tournament by going 3-1 at districts. Season highlights included a second-place trophy at an Edina Tournament and a first-place finish at the Alexandria Big Ole Tournament in January.

Throughout the regular season, the 12UB team went undefeated through 14 District 15 games to earn the No. 1 seed in the district tournament.

PeeWee B1 qualified for regions

The Klimek Brothers Well Drilling Alexandria PeeWee Black team fell just short of making the state tournament after qualifying for the region tournament.

The PeeWee Blacks went to the district tournament in Park Rapids and earned their spot at regions by beating Park Rapids by eight goals. That sent them to the district championship game and secured a spot at regions, where their season came to an end.
