SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — One person died Saturday, June 15, following a water rescue of kayakers at Covell Lake in Sioux Falls.
The Sioux Falls Police Department said they received a call at 8:14 p.m. Saturday about two kayakers who were struggling to make it to shore after capsizing.
One kayaker was rescued, but the other kayaker could not be located. Rescue crews searched the lake — which is about 15 acres in size and located in the north-central part of the city — until about midnight, when emergency responders recovered the victim’s body. Police confirmed the death Sunday morning.
The rescued victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment. The names of the victims have not been released.
