Police in Gloucester County have tracked down a Walmart customer who lost an envelope containing $2,500 in cash while picking up last minute items before vacation thanks to a good Samaritan and the power of social media.
A woman shopping the store on Route 42 in the Turnersville section of Washington Township found the money and turned it over to Walmart management, who contacted police.
Detective Jason Sims then reviewed the store’s surveillance footage until he found the part where the envelope fell out of the man’s pocket. Washington Township police posted his picture on their Facebook page and quickly learned his name - Norman Minor - as the post was viewed 67,000 times and shared by 1,600 people.
While vacationing in the Caribbean with his wife, Minor, a Washington Township resident, found out that the money had been returned. He picked up the envelope Tuesday at police headquarters, thanking the cops as well as the honest woman who handed the money over to her bosses.
Minor said he didn’t report the dropped cash to police because he figured it was long gone.
Authorities didn’t name the good Samaritan.
