Jedward have taken a swipe at Harry Potter author JK Rowling and joked her new book would be ‘perfect to burn’ on a fire.

In recent months, Rowling has faced criticism for appearing to make anti-trans comments on Twitter and has now sparked further upset by including a cross-dressing serial killer in her new book.

The writer, 55, has released new title Troubled Blood under her pseudonym Robert Galbraith, which follows a private detective as he tries to solve the disappearance of a woman in Cornwall in 1974.

His investigation sees him come up against a psychopathic serial killer, with the character receiving criticism for disguising himself in women’s clothing to commit his murderous crimes.

Taking aim at Rowling over her new release, Jedward were seen likening the book to ‘fire wood’ on Twitter.

The account, shared by former X Factor stars John and Edward Grimes, tweeted: ‘Does anyone need firewood this winter! JK’s new book is perfect to burn next to a Romantic fire. Aww get all cozy and comfy can’t wait.’

It came after Jedward posted a series of tweets in support of trans rights and their fans within the LGBTQ+ community.

Tagging Rowling in their tweet, the boys said: ‘#TransRightsAreHumanRights Understanding is the first step to acceptance @jk_rowling and only with acceptance can there be recovery It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be!

‘Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving!’

Jedward added in another tweet: ‘We couldn’t be more proud of our fans! Over the years seeing the growth and development finding who they are and becoming their true authentic selves! We LOVE You #TransRightsAreHumanRights.’

Their posts come after Rowling was embroiled in controversy in June when she took issue with the phrasing of an article headline that read: ‘Opinion: Creating a more equal post-COVID-19 world for people who menstruate.’

Rowling wrote: ‘”People who menstruate”. I’m sure there used to be a word for those people. Someone help me out. Wumben? Wimpund? Woomud?’

She was subjected to widespread backlash as a result and many accused Rowling of being ‘transphobic’, while explaining that it’s not just cis-gender women who menstruate.

Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe spoke out in support of the trans community following Rowling’s comments – prompting the author to later release a statement insisting she is not transphobic.

It said: ‘I absolutely refute the accusation that I hate trans people or wish them ill, or that standing up for the rights of women is wrong, discriminatory, or incites harm or violence to the trans community.’
