WOODBRIDGE, VA — A Woodbridge woman has been charged with assault and battery after the Prince William County police accused her of physically abusing a 4-year-old girl at a day care center, according to a police report.

Syeda Sunnia Ali, 27, was arrested on Friday, July 12, following a week-long investigation by the Police Department's Special Victims Unit.

Detectives with the unit, working with the county's Child Protective Services agency, were investigating allegations of child abuse at the Minnieland Academy at 14910 Feeder Lane, off Cardinal Drive in Woodbridge, the police said.

They allege that Ali, a teacher at the center, was caring for the girl when she threw her to the ground.

Ali "was then observed picking the victim up by her ankles and dropping her onto the ground, causing the child to strike her head," the police report states.
