Enes Kanter highlighted Brad Stevens’s basketball skills

He might be a head coach, but Brad Stevens still has some game.

Celtics center Enes Kanter revealed to NBC Boston’s Celtics Talk Podcast that Stevens, who played at DePauw University, still has moves on the basketball court. During his time at DePauw, Stevens played in every game (101) throughout his four-year career, averaging 5.1 points, 1.1 assists and 1.6 rebounds per game his senior year.

According to Kanter, Stevens displayed his shooting and rebounding skills one time after practice.

“I’ve never worked with a guy like coach Brad [Stevens]. He’s amazing…One time, we finished a practice and he was playing 1-on-1 with the ball boys. And I’m like, ‘Man, this is crazy. This is the only head coach I’ve seen trying to play 1-on-1 with the ball boys.’ He was actually very good, he was blocking shots, making 3-pointers.”

Kanter said he has proof of Stevens playing, but was told by his coach not to share the video. “I’ve still got the film. I was actually filming him, and he saw me and was like, ‘No, no, no.’ He didn’t want it to go viral. But he was actually really good.”

Aside from Stevens, Kanter also took the time to praise how “special” the Celtics are, especially teammate Gordon Hayward. Despite suffering several injuries last season, Kanter said Hayward looks to be “in good shape.”

“I played against him today and he looked amazing,” he said. “In really good shape, a lot of confidence…I’m very excited about him. He should definitely start eyeing the All-Star game.”
