Richard Jefferson Trolls 49ers With Savage One-Liner During NBA All-Star Celebrity Game

Five days after losing Super Bowl LVIII in overtime, the San Francisco 49ers continue to catch strays.

While broadcasting the NBA All-Star Celebrity Game on Friday, analyst Richard Jefferson took a swipe at the NFL’s recent runner-ups.

“If you don’t know the rules, it can be very detrimental. Just ask the 49ers,” Jefferson said on the ESPN broadcast.

The 49ers were heavily criticized this week after several players admitted they weren’t aware of the NFL’s new postseason overtime rules that guarantee both teams will have at least one offensive possession.

After San Francisco won the overtime coin toss Sunday, coach Kyle Shanahan controversially elected to receive the first possession on offense. Shanahan explained he wanted the ball first so the 49ers could have the third overtime possession if the game was still tied.

However, Kansas City coach Andy Reid made it clear that if San Francisco scored a touchdown on their first drive, the Chiefs would have gone for a touchdown and a two-point conversion to win it all anyway.

The 49ers likely won’t hear the end of it until they finally hoist the Lombardi Trophy for that illusive sixth Super Bowl title in franchise history.
