NC Man's Arrest Marks 4th In State Following Jan. 6 Capitol Riot

CHARLOTTE, NC — A 35-year-old Sylva, North Carolina man was arrested Thursday in connection to the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol in Washington, D.C., the FBI Charlotte field office said. The Feb. 18 arrest marks the fourth in North Carolina stemming from the violent mob violence incident that led to the deaths of seven people.

Lewis Cantwell, who was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation Thursday afternoon, was expected to have his first court appearance in Buncombe County Friday, a spokesperson for the FBI Charlotte field office told Patch.

Cantwell was indicted by a federal grand jury on six charges, including destroying property, interfering with a law enforcement officer, and disrupting a government activity, the Charlotte Observer reported.

Three others from North Carolina, including a husband and wife from Pilot Mountain, also face federal charges for their participation in the incident.
