The NYPD released the mugshots of a handful of protesters arrested for minor crimes during overnight demonstrations — a rare move following a state law severely limiting the release of booking photos.
The 24-year-old Devina Singh, who was captured on camera spitting in the face of a cop in Greenwich Village, was featured in the collage of five mugshots tweeted out by the department Thursday afternoon.

“Last night, these individuals were arrested at protests in Manhattan for various crimes, including assaulting police officers & weapons possession,” the NYPD tweeted. “If you have any info related to these individuals, or others regarding violence at protests, please call @NYPDTips at 800-577-TIPS.”
According to cops, Barter was picked up with a can of pepper spray, Brown was charged with assault, Menard allegedly hit a police chief, and Lewis was arrested with a stun gun.
It was the second time in recent memory that the NYPD decided to release mugshots of people who had already been arrested.
In both instances, the people were arrested during anti-police demonstrations in the city.
The state law passed as part of the budget in 2019 allows cops to release mugshots if the “public release of such photographs will serve a specific law enforcement purpose and disclosure is not precluded by any state or federal laws.”
In the case of Clara Kraebber, whose mug was tweeted out along with six others after being charged with damaging storefronts in Manhattan, it was unclear if the release led to any additional charges.
During the demonstrations overnight, police arrested 25 people, most of whom face a charge of disorderly conduct, and 32 others were slapped with summonses, according to the NYPD.
