Logan Webb Shields Giants, City of San Francisco From Recent Criticism With Viral Post
There has been plenty of discourse about the city of San Francisco flying around the baseball world since two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani signed with the Dodgers.
Giants ace Logan Webb came to the city’s defense Thursday in two social media posts.
Webb, a fourth-round pick by the Giants in 2014, has spent his entire career with San Francisco and finished second in Cy Young award voting last season.
The public criticism of San Francisco, which began earlier this week with former Giants catcher Buster Posey and MLB insider Ken Rosenthal mentioning free agents feel “uneasy” about the city, picked up again Thursday when veteran Rowdy Tellez was asked about it on Foul Territory.
"The last 10 to 12 years, man, it's just been a bad city,” Tellez said. “It's not nice anymore. It's not clean. It's hardly safe.”
Tellez grew up in Elk Grove, Calif., a suburb of Sacramento. He has played for the Blue Jays and Brewers over six seasons in the big leagues.
Webb, who has spent nearly a decade in the Giants organization and also grew up in the Sacramento area, clearly disagrees with the left-handed slugger.
The Giants made their first big move of the offseason Tuesday by signing Korean outfielder Jung Hoo Lee. They’ll look to add more weapons to keep up in the loaded NL West with the star-studded Dodgers and defending NL champion Diamondbacks.
