Channel Seven reschedules My Kitchen Rules so it WON'T compete against Married At First Sight next year - after it was smashed in the ratings

Channel Seven's once-unbeatable My Kitchen Rules was smashed in the ratings this year by Channel Nine's Married At First Sight.

And in a bid to avoid competition, Seven has reportedly shifted the next season of MKR until the end of 2020 so it won't lose viewers to MAFS.

Production of the reality cooking program has also been shifted back to November, according to The Australian's Media Diary.

Meanwhile, Channel Seven is apparently trying to shake up the flagging franchise by making an alternate version of the show called MKR 2.0.

Celebrity chef Colin Fassnidge will be leading the revamped show in the vein of foul-mouthed TV personality Gordon Ramsay.

MKR 2.0 is expected to place more emphasis on the show's warring contestants and include MAFS-inspired 'cocktail parties'.

It comes after Married At First Sight and Travel Guides, which also airs on Channel Nine, both beat MKR in the ratings earlier this month.

On one night, just 832,000 people tuned into MKR while Travel Guides brought in an impressive 870,000 viewers despite airing in a later timeslot.

Married At First Sight brought in a massive viewership of 1.6 million a night, The Daily Telegraph previously reported.

It comes after MKR judge Manu Feildel publicly criticised MAFS in a blistering interview with the Herald Sun newspaper.

'I think it's sad that we've sunk that far,' said the French chef.

'It brings out the worst in people. We enjoy relationships falling apart. How is that entertainment?'
