Former Bartow County Substitute Teacher Arrested

Bryan Somers is reported to have substituted predominately at Emerson Elementary School, according to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office.

A former substitute teacher at Emerson Elementary School and Metro Ambulance EMT was arrested and charged with multiple crimes against children, according to a news release from the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office.

Bryan Somers, 40, of Cartersville, was charged with four counts of child molestation, two counts of enticing a child for indecent purposes, one count of possession of child pornography, and three counts of distribution of child pornography, the sheriff's office stated.

The arrest was a joint effort by the Polk County Police Department, the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations.

The following statement was provided to Fox 5 by the Bartow County School District:

On July 19, 2019, the Bartow County School System immediately terminated Bryan Somers as a contracted substitute teacher following notification of his arrest by the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office. He will no longer be eligible to obtain employment opportunities with the school system moving forward.
