Lucasfilm Shoots Down Report About Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian Spinoff Film (UPDATE)

Maybe Lando Calrissian isn't getting his own 'Star Wars' movie after all.

UPDATED 11:38 a.m. ET: It turns out Donald Glover's Lando Calrissian isn't getting his own film after all. Lucasfilm cites translation issues between their president Kathleen Kennedy and the journalist from the French publication, Premiere. They write:

"Following the publication of our article Lucasfilm informs us that there would have been a misunderstanding between our journalist and Kathleen Kennedy. 'We would love to tell a story about Lando Calrissian one day, but it's not relevant, it would be fun to tell the story of Han and Chewie..."

See original story below.

Donald Glover just got a bit busier. AfterSolo: A Star Wars Story, which stars Glover as Han's frenemy Lando Calrissian, Lucasfilm is planning to pursue a Lando origin tale.

"We think that the next spin-off will be dedicated to Lando Calrissian," said Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy to Premiere. "Of course, there are still many stories to tell about Han and Chewbacca, but Lando will be next."

Billy Dee Williams first portrayed the smuggler-turned-Cloud City official in The Empire Strikes Back. (He's also the original owner of the Millennium Falcon) Calrissian later joins the Rebel Alliance and is seen in Return of the Jedi. Now, as Glover is playing the young Lando in Solo, the casting choice seems serendipitous since Glover previously shared his first toy ever was a Lando action figure. This won't be the first time Lando got some sort of solo treatment. He starred in a 2015 five-issue miniseries, Lando, and is slated to star in another five-issue miniseries, Lando: Double of Nothing, which will be released at the end of the month.

As for the Lando standalone film, you can expect to see Alden Ehrenreich, who plays Han Solo, too: he recently unintentionally revealed he's contracted for two more films after Solo

The next Star Wars film after May 25's Solo is December 2019's Episode IX. But with Solo landing just six months after The Last Jedi, we could encourage wishful thinking for Lando to drop in...mid-2020?
