José Andrés Gets His Own Holiday In Montgomery County
José Andrés, a celebrity chef from Bethesda whose nonprofit has fed millions of natural disasters victims, now has his own holiday.
ROCKVILLE, MD — Celebrity chef José Andrés boasts two Michelin stars, more than a dozen restaurants, and a nonprofit that has fed millions of natural disasters victims.
Now the Bethesda resident has his own holiday.
On Monday, County Executive Marc Elrich and Council President Nancy Navarro presented Andrés with a proclamation declaring Oct. 28 as José Andrés Day in Montgomery County. The world-renowned chef received the proclamation while at a speaking engagement at The Universities of Shady Grove in Rockville.

"The Montgomery County Council is honored to call Chef Jose Andres a resident of Montgomery County, and we hold him as an example of the great compassion that all of our residents are capable of," Navarro wrote in an Instagram post.

It's been a busy two months for Andrés, a decorated chef who is also known for his humanitarian work.

In September, Andrés was in the Bahamas with his World Central Kitchen nonprofit to help those in need. The nonprofit — which is famous for feeding millions of natural disaster victims, including those in Puerto Rico following Hurricane Maria — delivered thousands of meals to victims of Hurricane Dorian, according to Andrés.
On Sunday, Andrés threw the first pitch in Game 5 of the World Series between the Washington Nationals and the Houston Astros.
