Hoover Sexual Assault Suspect Indicted By Grand Jury

A man accused of a home invasion and sexual assault at The Willows apartment complex in 2019 has been indicted.

JEFFERSON COUNTY, AL β€” A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted a man accused of breaking into a home in The Willows apartments in Hoover and sexually assaulting a woman he held captive.

Mario Derrell Slaughter, 33, is charged with second-degree kidnapping, first-degree sexual abuse, second-degree burglary, receiving stolen property, theft of property and breaking and entering a vehicle.

The charges stem from a Feb. 20 home invasion at the 3600 building of The Willows Apartments off of Lorna Road. The victim reported at approximately 3 a.m., she awoke to find Slaughter standing in the hallway of her residence, according to Hoover Lt. Keith Czeskleba.

Hoover police said Slaughter forced the victim to drive him to Bessemer where he made her stop at a convenience store. The suspect then reportedly ordered the victim to drive him to another location in Bessemer, where he exited her vehicle. She immediately returned to Hoover to report the crime.

He was arrested after a standoff Feb. 21 with Birmingham police and has been in the Jefferson County Jail since.
