preview for 8 Fun Facts About Dr. Pimple Popper

It may seem next to impossible to make pimple popping videos seem fashionable, but if there's anyone who can do it, it's probably Dr. Pimple Popper. On Monday night, Dr. Pimple Popper—aka, dermatologist Dr. Sandra Lee, MD—posted a short Instagram clip in honor of the Met Gala.

As she writes in the post's caption, "Don’t let a #pilarcyst keep you from serving up a killer #lewk! Keep it 💥poppin💥!" And keep it poppin' she does, with a brief clip that depicts a close-up of a pilar cyst just seconds away from being smushed out of existence.

"I'm not scared of it—I don't wanna scare you, but I don't want it to bust on us and get us," she says, likening the pilar cyst to an adorable, highly intelligent sea creature. "There he is, he's cute—he looks like a little whale," she says, "like a little beluga whale."

Pilar cysts—also known as trichilemmal cysts—are actually just small bumps filled with fluid, according to MedicalNewsToday. They're fairly common—affecting about 10 percent of the population—and are typically found on top of the scalp, forming when hair follicles become clogged. The layer of skin that covers the pilar cyst tends to be thicker and more fibrous, and often you'll see the dermatologist remove the sac that contained the cyst to help prevent it from returning.

Not that you always need to have your cyst removed. If the Met Gala teaches us anything every year, it's that you can pull anything off if you have enough confidence—even a chandelier dress.
