Hear that? It's the sound of makeup lovers' hearts breaking as they get a look at a photo taken in a Georgia Sephora last week. In it, it appears that every single tester of Make Up For Ever eyeshadow has been smashed to rainbow bits by some heartless heathen.

But according to the woman who snapped the picture, the culprit was actually a small child who was temporarily left unattended by his or her mother.

"It looked 100 times worse in real life," Brittney Nelson (who doesn't work at Sephora) said in her Facebook post about the scene, which has since been shared more than 25,000 times. She estimated that the destroyed makeup amounts to about $1,300.

It evoked an emotional response in many a beauty maven.

But it's something else Nelson said in her post that's getting the most heated response: "Mammas, please shop for your makeup without your tiny humans."

The comment is being interpreted as putting an unrealistic demand on moms.

Others are saying the mother of the alleged eyeshadow shatterer wasn't doing her job.

Then there are those who don't believe the claim that it was a small child who caused the damage.

But even though Nelson didn't see the child in the act, she's confident that's who's responsible.

"We walked in right as a lady and her kid were hustling out of there," Nelson told Insider. "The glittery footprints helped us decipher it was a tiny human."

And even though her Facebook post rubbed some people the wrong way with the suggestion that moms should leave their kids at home, she also mentioned what she does when she's had to take her own child to Sephora.

"I've needed to bring Allie into many makeup stores as she's grown and had a strict 'hands in pockets' rule for her and a strict 10-minute rule for me," she wrote. "It was very helpful, so if you must take your kiddos makeup shopping, I suggest trying it."

Hopefully, the Sephora employees who had to clean up the mess have seen this brilliant hack for turning broken eyeshadow into an awesome manicure.
