BUFFALO GROVE, IL — Authorities have secured an arrest warrant for Anatoliy Ermak, the suspect wanted on first degree murder charges in the shooting deaths of his ex-wife and her husband Sunday inside a Buffalo Grove condominium parking garage. The Buffalo Grove Police Department along with the Lake County Major Crime Task Force and the Cook County State’s Attorney’s office obtained the warrant Wednesday morning, according to a news release from the police department.

“This warrant is the result of more than 48-hours of non-stop investigation,” Buffalo Grove Police Department Chief Steven Casstevens said, in the release. “The investigators have worked diligently to secure this warrant, and I am proud of the hard work and collaboration between our local and federal agencies involved.”

The warrant for two counts of first degree murder was approved by a Cook County judge, according to police, and the 64-year-old suspect will be extradited if he's located outside of Buffalo Grove, according to the news release.

“Locating the suspect and providing safety and security to our residents remain the Police Department’s priorities and we will continue to work exhaustively at both,” Casstevens added.

Buffalo Grove police said Tuesday that Anatoliy is suspected of fatally shooting his ex-wife Nataliya Ermak, 55, and her husband, Roman Frid, 69, Sunday at 150 Lake Blvd, according to the release.

During a press conference Tuesday, Casstevens said several leads pointed them to the suspect, who they believe last resided in Minnesota. Casstevens added that the suspect rented a car several days ago in Minnesota, a 2019 white Nissan Versa with the Florida license plate KCFK75.

Police described the suspect as a white man with gray hair and wearing dark clothing, a dark jacket and dark baseball-style hat.

Casstevens said surveillance video from the parking garage showed the victims arriving in a car around 8:15 p.m. After exiting the car, the couple had a "brief conversation" with the suspect, who approached on foot as the garage door closed and shot the pair multiple times, Casstevens said.

According to Casstevens, the shooter left the garage on foot through a side door.

"We're following numerous leads right now to determine where he might be headed," Casstevens said.

Police said the two victims were specifically targeted and that this wasn't a random incident. Casstevens added that authorities haven't recovered a weapon or determined a motive.

"Once again, our condolences go out to families and to the victims," Casstevens said during the press conference.

On Monday, Casstevens said he did not know when the last homicide occurred in Buffalo Grove, which recently was named as one of the 10 safest cities in Illinois. In 2005, a father and daughter were killed by their house cleaner during a burglary in the suburb. Prior to that, a woman was fatally stabbed in a Buffalo Grove business parking garage in 1996.

Police urge anyone with any information on Ermak's location to contact Buffalo Grove police investigators at 847-459-2560. Anonymous tips can be made via the Lake County Crime Stoppers website or by calling 847-662-2222.
