Pinkberry: One restaurant now sells it on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Mike and Ramy Rashed have made a name for themselves with health-minded food in their Fuel Fever restaurants in Brooklyn and Staten Island.

Pinkberry brand frozen yogurt seemed like a natural addition to their salubrious lineup.

"We went to try it in Park Slope," Ramy said of the tart-on-tangy frozen yogurt. "It was amazing."

He and Mike knew it was a good fit for their pair of restaurants, so they reached out to the Arizona-based company.

The gluten-free dessert went over sensationally when the brothers introduced it to their Sheepshead Bay location.

And, on Monday, the brothers rolled out the first Pinkberry flavor at Fuel Fever in Grasmere -- pomegranate swirled into plain yogurt with a choice of toppings, such as Nutella, berries, granola and coconut flakes.

"Yesterday was the first day. We were really busy yesterday training," Ramy said.

Everything about the product has to be exact, he explained.

"I have to give the Pinkberry cup to a customer with two hands," he said.

"There's a certain amount of swirls per cup. Pinkberry has be represented across the board. Everybody has to get it the same way," said Ramy.

"We're spot-checked by a district manager to ensure the machine is being cleaned properly," said Ramy.

Eventually, he plans to build a self-service station for guests where they have a choice of flavors and can add their own toppings.

Fuel Fever keeps four drivers on staff and the store delivers Islandwide. The most popular items on the menu are Fuel's pitaya bowls, smoothies and burgers.

"You can get absolutely anything here, but we do it in a healthy way," said Ramy's wife, Susan, who works at the store. That means guests can order a burger served with French fries that are baked in a convection oven, crisped with no oil.

"We don't have a deep fryer," said Ramy.

"We cater to every diet -- vegan, gluten-free, low-carb," said Susan.

"You can have a bacon, egg and cheese with turkey bacon, low-fat cheese and egg whites," Ramy suggested.

"We have a meal plan and do catering. On Sundays, we are closed so we have the space available for parties," said Susan.

Fuel Fever is located at 1144 Hylan Blvd., Grasmere;

In Brooklyn, find the store at 8615 18th Ave., Bensonhurst; 718-259-3123.
