Whether you remove yours with waxing, shaving or sugaring, or embrace it in all its glory, what you do with your body hair is totally your choice.

We were all born with it and it's our right to show it off as we damn well please, which is why we have a serious amount of time for this photo doing the rounds on Instagram.

Joanna J Kenny, a 31-year-old British Esthetician, took to Instagram to share a close-up snap of her upper lip hair in all its glory alongside the most empowering caption.

"For all of my dark haired friends - I’m wearing my new lipstick and blue mascarato remind you all that facial hair is NORMAL! ⚡️," she captioned the picture of her upper lip.

Joanna explains that she first starting noticing upper lip hair and general facial fuzz when she was a teen. "Embarrassed, I would use whatever I could get my hands on to remove it. But when my acne got more inflamed I found most methods of hair removal aggravating," she wrote.

"And while in the last year my skin has mostly cleared, I haven’t started removing my facial hair again. As I am naturally fair haired I’m aware that my peach fuzz isn’t as noticeable as my brunette friends. But I do still get the occasional troll in the comments pointing out I have a moustache!"

Quite rightly, the skincare guru explains that like acne, pores, lines and wrinkles, facial hair is airbrushed from most forms of media which, she says, is most people’s point of reference to determine what IS normal.

"So this is me normalising facial hair for anyone who’s grown up believing it’s something to be ashamed of," she signs off. Obviously she amassed plenty of supportive comments from her followers, with people thanking her for sharing the unfiltered post.

It's not the first time that the skincare expert has used her platform to share her views on facial hair. She recently shared a list of all the reasons why her facial hair makes her beautiful - and it's so empowering.

She wrote:

• facial hair doesn’t make me dirty
• facial hair doesn’t make me any less of a woman
• embracing my facial hair doesn’t mean I don’t take care of myself
• visible facial hair doesn’t automatically mean I have a hormonal imbalance or that my desire to normalise it here means that I want people that do to go untreated
• facial and body hair can be hereditary
• by choosing not to remove my facial hair does not mean I don’t agree other people choosing to. The point is, we should all have the freedom to make choices for our own bodies without fear of judgment.

Society’s policing of female body hair is so strong that most women don’t question it anymore. Shaving, waxing, lasering and plucking hair from our legs and armpits to bikini lines has become an accepted – and expensive – part of our beauty routine, which is why posts like Joanna's are so important.
