Environment Canada has lifted a tornado warning that was in place for parts of York and Durham regions Saturday afternoon.
The weather agency initially issued the alert at 3:51 p.m. for Uxbridge, Beaverton, northern Durham Region, Newmarket, Georgina, and northern York Region.
“In northern Durham, there was a tornado-warned cell that dropped some large hail and was also showing rotation on radar,” said meteorologist Ross Hull.
The tornado warning was later replaced with a severe thunderstorm warning.
It came during a weekend of unsettled weather in parts of southern Ontario, with warm temperatures and high humidity throughout the region.
Temperatures are expected to remain warm on Sunday with a high near 28 C in the Toronto area and another chance of thunderstorms.
“Not all areas will see them, but if they do develop there is the potential for them to turn severe,” Hull said.
