Home Minister Rajnath Singh briefed leaders of major political parties on Thursday on the situation in the wake of the Army's surgical strike targeting terror launch pads across the Line of Control (LoC).

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Venkaiah Naidu, BSP's Satish Mishra and RJD's Prem Chand Gupta also attended the meet. Principal Secretary to PM Nripendra Singh was also present.

Earlier, the Home Minister had informed Chief Ministers of West Bengal, Odisha, Punjab, Bihar and other states about the strikes.

Envoys of 22 nations (including P5 nations) have also been briefed by MEA about India’s position on the surgical attacks.

Putting aside their differences, all political parties came together to hail the anti-terror surgical strikes carried out by the Army across the LoC, with the BJP saying it signalled the "rise of new India" and the Congress terming it as a "strong message" to Pakistan to stop aiding terrorism.

Congress chief Sonia Gandhi said a "strong message" has been sent with the surgical strikes by the Army and insisted that Pakistan bears a "great responsibility" in the continuing cross-border attacks in India.

Sena leader Sanjay Raut said,

We congratulate the armed forces and government over this action. We should not step back and go ahead as India and its armed forces have the capacity to unfurl the Tricolour in Lahore and Karachi. We congratulate the Prime Minister.

After the meeting was concluded Congress leader Shashi Tharoor said:

I am very proud of the Indian Army, the real message has been sent to Pakistan. Well done!

Responding to Pakistan condemning “the unprovoked and naked aggression of Indian forces”, Tharoor said:

What does Pakistan mean by ‘unprovoked’? Killing 18 of our soldiers is not provocation? Whatever the Indian Army did was a very sensible, measured and proportionate form of retaliation.

Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad too praised the surgical strikes after the meeting concluded:

The government briefed us about the surgical strike and we congratulated the forces for being successful in the operation. Any step by the government and the forces take against terrorism will be supported by us.

The surgical strikes conducted by the Indian Army against the Pakistani terrorists is an important step.

Bharat mata ki jai! The whole country stands with the Indian Army.

However, BJP ally and Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti struck a note of caution as she voiced concern over escalation of the situation along the borders and warned that the confrontation could lead to a "disaster of epic proportions" for the state.
