Former Canadian radio host Jian Ghomeshi has dropped a $55 million lawsuit against the CBC.
A CBC spokesman on Tuesday confirmed the legal move to The Hollywood Reporter. The lawsuit withdrawal requires a court order to complete. Ghomeshi will pay the CBC’s $18,000 in legal costs as part of his settlement agreement.
Lawyers for Ghomeshi filed the $55 million lawsuit against the CBC, alleging breach of faith and breach of confidence, a day after the former radio host was dismissed. At the time, CBC lawyers filed a notice of motion to dismiss Ghomeshi’s lawsuit against the broadcaster on grounds the legal action was “without merit and an abuse of the court’s process.”

Ghomeshi’s controversial departure from the CBC will now be dealt with inside the pubcaster as part of a unionized grievance process, the spokesman said. His dismissal followed the former CBC employee showing video and other materials to senior network execs that included evidence of “physical injury to a woman,” according to the pubcaster.
Nine women have since come forward to the Toronto Star newspaper and the CBC to allege sexual abuse by Ghomeshi. The Toronto police sex crime unit has opened an active investigation into the allegations.
