Button-mapping will soon be available for all Xbox One Controllers
Custom button configuration will be coming to all Xbox One controllers in the future, Microsoft has announced
If you love your buttons, we have good news for you! Custom button-mapping will be coming to all Xbox One controllers in the near future.
The feature was previously exclusive to the Xbox Elite controller, set to release later this month alongside Halo 5: Guardians.
Microsoft’s Mike Ybarra confirmed on Twitter that the feature will be coming to all Xbox One controllers through a firmware update.
“It’s coming for all controllers” Ybarra said in a tweet.
He did not mention any kind of specific release window for the update, which will likely come after the Elite Controller launches.

Some have speculated that the feature will be available first via the Xbox Preview Programme, which is pretty likely.
Button-mapping will allow players to to assign custom functions to various buttons of their choosing.
The feature will let you customise the original controls for a number of titles, as well as button prompts for the Xbox OS.
Xbox One won’t be the first console to adopt custom button configuration, as of the March 2015 Playstation update, PS4 players have been able to assign their own button prompts to the Dualshock 4.
The £120 Xbox One Elite Controller launches on October 23, a few days before the release of Halo 5: Guardians.
In addition to custom button-mapping, the controller also includes interchangeable rear panels, triggers and thumbsticks.
