The Avengers #37 - $3.99
By Jonathan Hickman & Mike Deodato | Marvel Comics
Time Runs Out kicked off with a bunch of huge status quo changes, and now we can’t wait to see what happens next. It’s so freaking cool to see the story that Jonathan Hickman has been building towards all these years all finally coming together.
This definitely isn’t a place to jump on if you’re a new reader, but it’s worth catching up to if you can. With SHIELD at the height of its power and the expanded Illuminati on the run, you can’t help but get caught up in all the drama. Characters are making strange alliances, turning on former friends, and working towards mysterious objectives. It’s a good time to be an Avengers reader.
Avengers & X-Men: AXIS #3 - $3.99
By Rick Remender & Leinil Francis Yu | Marvel Comics
It’s been an interesting if not troubled ride to this point in AXIS. The first two issues simply weren’t up to snuff with all of the comics Rick Remender has been putting out lately. But with the final chapter of Act I, we have been promised a big development that will shake up the status quo and lead into a very different Act II. If you’ve been reading the previews, then you already know what will happen, but there’s nothing quite like watching how it all goes down. We know the awesomeness that Remender is capable of, so we’re hoping he finds his footing with this issue.
The biggest draw for this installment is that Leinil Francis Yu is now taking over art duties. Given the great job he did on the epic Infinity issues of Avengers, we can’t wait to see what he can do with AXIS.
Arkham Manor #1 - $2.99
By Gerry Duggan & Shawn Crystal | DC Comics
Wayne Manor is now playing host to Arkham’s most insane inmates? Sign us up! It’s a strange concept, to be sure, but with Gerry Duggan at the helm, it’s one we’re excited to explore. Duggan has been killing it on Deadpool, Hulk and Nova, so there’s no reason to think he won’t slay it with this new Bat-book, too.
Yeah, there are a TON of books in the Batman corner of DC Comics now, but Arkham Manor and the previously launched Gotham Academy have a completely different vibe than everything else, so it’s hard to complain. If there’s such a thing as too much Batman, we haven’t reached it yet. But hey, it’s Batman’s 75th anniversary, so we’ll enjoy the onslaught of Bat-ness while it lasts.
Deathstroke #1 - $2.99
By Tony S. Daniel | DC Comics
DC’s other new launch this week sees Deathstroke getting another New 52 solo title. While primarily known as an artist, Tony S. Daniel has some writing chops, too. It’ll be great to see what he brings to the character of Deathstroke, especially given the character’s rise in popularity thanks to his appearance in Batman’s video games and his role in the Arrow TV show. But one thing is certain: after taking one look at that sickening cover, it’s safe to say that Deathstroke will be one great looking comic.
Colder: Bad Seed #1 - $3.99
By Paul Tobin & Juan Ferreyra | Dark Horse Comics
If there’s one comic that left an impression on us over the past few years, it's most definitely Colder. Disturbing, thrilling, and really just disturbing, Colder was a unique comic that defied expectations and chilled us to our core. Now it’s back as an ongoing series, proving that there is justice in the world. Joshua is IGN’s Comics Editor.
