As the media establishment lapses into hysteria over every wild accusation and each unsourced claim lodged against President Donald Trump, the cacophony seems to be having little impact with his supporters, a new report finds.
Trump’s loyal supporters either don’t know about the constant stream of attacks the president has suffered since his January 20 inauguration, or they don’t believe the claims that have caused the Department of Justice to appoint a special prosecutor to look into ties between the president and Russia. Others say they don’t even care about any of it, according to the Associated Press.
“From the quiet streets of New York’s working-class Staten Island to small-town Denison, Iowa, and even smaller Rutledge, Georgia,” The AP reported, “Trump may be as popular today as when he was elected. Voters are standing with a president who tweeted on Thursday that he is the target of ‘the single greatest witch hunt of a politician in American history!'”
Thus far, accusations that Donald Trump coordinated with Russian officials during his recent campaign for president have little basis in fact. There is little if any evidence of any such collusion. But the accusations again kicked into high gear after a story by The New York Times claimed the president urged then FBI Director James Comey to stop investigating former national security adviser Mike Flynn.
But despite the fact that Washington and the left-wing media are consumed by the story, the AP notes that Trump’s supporters don’t seem interested in the accusations.
“I tuned it out,” mother and Trump supporter Michele Velardi told the AP. “I didn’t want to be depressed. I don’t want to feel that he’s not doing what he said, so I just choose to not listen.”
Another Trump supporter, 19-year-old Joseph Amodeo, attacked Trump’s critics saying, “If you’re wishing for him to fail, you’re basically wishing for the pilot of the plane to crash. You just gotta stick by him and hopefully, he does things that benefit everyone.”
27-year-old Robbie Foy of Rutledge, Georgia, said that he is sticking with Trump and has not changed his mind over why he voted to “Make America Great Again.”
“Trump’s not in it for the money. He’s got plenty of money,” Foy said. On the other hand, Foy insisted that Clinton “was in it for herself.”
State Assemblyman Ron Castorina, who represents Staten Island, told the AP that he thinks people are getting even stronger in their support.
“Not only have I not heard of anyone turning their backs, I’ve seen people become more in solidarity with the president because they feel he’s getting a raw deal,” Castorina told the wire service.
So, if the AP’s reporting is any indication, Trump’s supporters are still sticking with him.
