When Marvel first announced Ryan Coogler as the director of Black Panther, we knew the film was on an exciting path. The studio had already cast the lead of what will be its first non-white superhero movie in Chadwick Boseman, who made his debut as the character in Captain America: Civil War to swell results, but adding Coogler as the project’s writer and director ensured that this wasn’t just going to be any Marvel movie. Coming off of Fruitvale Station and Creed, Coogler has proven adept at telling incredibly personal and character-driven stories that have something to say about the world we live in, which is apt for a story like Black Panther.

And excitement for the project grew even bigger when Marvel unveiled a big part of the cast at Comic-Con 2016 last week, with Oscar-winner Lupita Nyong’o, The Walking Dead actress Danai Gurira, and Creed and Fruitvale Station star Michael B. Jordan officially joining the ensemble.

Shortly after the Black Panther cast took the stage, Collider’s own Steven Weintraub caught up with Jordan backstage to talk a bit more about the film. He teased the timeliness of the Black Panther story that will be on display and talked about how Coogler won’t even tell him specifics about the movie.

But additionally, Jordan spoke briefly about Creed 2. Warner Bros. has shown interest in continuing on with this Rocky sequel franchise given the success of the first movie, but Coogler will be busy with Black Panther for some time, so what’s the word?

“I’m not sure yet. Honestly it’s another thing like he’s busy doing [Black Panther], I’m in this world, so I know it’s something that’s gonna happen. I’m not sure exactly when, but it’s something that we are talking about and thinking about because it’s such an important story.”

Last we heard, the producers were bullish on potentially getting Creed 2 in theaters by late 2017, but that would certainly mean Coogler wouldn’t be directing. We’ll have to wait and see if the studio is willing to wait, or if the sequel will move forward with a different director. For now, check out our interview with Jordan in the video above.
