Man bust doing 180km/h on N3 'in a hurry to get home'

Johannesburg – Four drivers were arrested for speeding on the N3 southbound near Rand Airport on Sunday, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

The fastest of the drivers was caught going 180km/h in a 120km/h zone at 06:40 on Sunday morning, spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Wilfred Kgasago said in a statement.

The 33-year-old man had three male passengers in his red VW Golf 6 and claimed to be in a hurry to get home.

He was locked up at the Germiston police station and charged with reckless or negligent driving.

Three other drivers were caught going at 163, 165, and 166km/h and charged with the same offence. All were released on R1 000 bail each.
