David Ortiz said his penultimate goodbye, while Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand were leading Team Canada to victory in the World Cup of Hockey.

Yankees say good-bye to David Ortiz in ‘most meaningful‘ manner yet: Despite clinching the division already, David Ortiz trotted out to the batter’s box for his finale at Yankee Stadium last night. The Red Sox went on to lose 5-1, but the night was not without its memorable moments for Boston fans. Before the game, Jacoby Ellsbury and David Cone presented Ortiz with a leather-bound book of farewells, before Mariano Rivera made a surprise appearance with a painting as a second gift, before ‘Sweet Caroline’ was played over the PA. Glimpse into how Fenway Park is going to honor David Ortiz this weekend: Of course, Ortiz has the most important good-bye of the season still to come, though his final series at Fenway Park this weekend won’t actually be his last games there with the playoffs just ahead. That certainly won’t stop the Red Sox from making the most of the occasion regardless, and they’ve already outfitted the ramp over Gate D with a banner and etched his likeness into the outfield. Anniversary is golden when Patriots reflect on Tom Brady’s first start: As the ever-aware Mike Reiss aptly points out, today – September 30, 2016 – marks the 15-year anniversary of the day Tom Brady made his first start for the Patriots. Brady did actually get his first playing time a week prior when Drew Bledsoe left the team’s week two game against the Jets due to injury, but it was Brady who led the 2001 squad to a decisive 44-13 win over Peyton Manning and the Colts. Patrice Bergeron, Brad Marchand lift Team Canada to World Cup of Hockey title: Though Zdeno Chara’s goal for Team Europe remained the only score of the game until the final three minutes, a late comeback led by Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand ultimately secured victory for Team Canada in the World Cup of Hockey. Bergeron was credited for a goal after redirecting a shot from the point, and Marchand netted the game-winner just two minutes later. (NESN)
