Martin Scorsese‘s planned documentary on President Bill Clinton has stalled, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed.
The two camps are in disagreement about the documentary, which the director has been making for HBO, according to a New York Times report. Sources told The Times Clinton wanted more control over the questions asked and the final product than the director wanted to allow. Portions of the film, which was announced in December 2012, have been shot over the past two years.

Scorsese did not immediately respond to requests for comment. An HBO rep told THR, “It’s not happening soon, but that doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen.”
Clinton spokesperson Matt McKenna called the reports of creative differences “inaccurate” in an email to The Times.
The documentary was described as looking at Clinton’s Clinton’s perspectives on history, politics, culture and the world. It would examine his time in office and after.
According to Times sources, Clinton sought to omit questions that could potentially damage his wife Hillary Clinton‘s reputation as the 2016 presidential election nears and questions of her candidacy loom.
Other Clinton-themed projects have fallen by the wayside in recent years. CNN shelved a Hillary Clinton documentary in 2013, while NBC scrapped plans for a miniseries about her. The feature Rodham, which Lionsgate acquired the rights to in 2013, remains in development.
