Linkin Park have been slaving away in the studio for a year now, hard at work on One More Light, which will serve as the successor to 2014's The Hunting Party. The 21st century icons released the album's first single, "Heavy," last week, causing a stir among fans for its pop-leaning direction.

While some praised Linkin Park's boldness to step into new sonic territory as the band has an established history of doing, others angrily fired back expressing their dissatisfaction with the track. One fan has now flipped the song around, showcasing "Heavy" in the band's classic rap-rock style found on earlier works like Hybrid Theory (video above).

Instead of the light beat, airy synths and subdued vocal take, Bloodywood (YouTube user and video creator) brings back distorted guitar, table scratches and the trade-off of clean-sung lines, screams and rap vocal cadences. The chorus finds each of these elements colliding for a soaring chorus that is certainly reminiscent of Linkin Park's earlier days.

Speaking about the decision to release "Heavy" as the first single, Mike Shinoda told Billboard that the song “is really the core sound of the album and that "this wasn’t a scenario where the whole album sounds one way and the single sounds different. This is how the album sounds. So we wanted to go out with a song like that, where everybody can get a sense of the direction of this body of work.”

One More Light will be out on May 19 and pre-orders can be placed at the Linkin Park webstore.
