Jim Carrey explains weird, metaphysical Fashion Week interview by getting even more weird and metaphysical

Earlier this week, we reported on a bizarre interview Jim Carrey gave at New York’s Fashion Week last weekend, in which he first circled reporter Catt Sadler like a prowling animal, before answering her questions with cheerfully blunt philosophical statements like “There is no me” and “There are just things happening and there are clusters of tetrahedrons moving around together.”

Given the internet-wide “Huh?” Carrey’s performance provoked, he apparently felt moved to clarify those odd, metaphysical statements later on in the week, releasing a new raft of odd, metaphysical statements at the Toronto International Film Festival. “As an actor you play characters, and if you go deep enough into those characters, you realize your own character is pretty thin to begin with,” Carrey—who has a number of new projects in the works, including a Showtime series and the upcoming documentary Jim And Andyexplained in an interview. “You suddenly have this separation and go, ‘Who’s Jim Carrey? Oh, he doesn’t exist actually.’ There’s just a relative manifestation of consciousness appearing, and someone gave him a name, a religion, a nationality, and he clustered those together into something that’s supposed to be a personality, and it doesn’t actually exist. None of that stuff, if you drill down, is real.”

Also hopefully not real: the catty responses of the hosts of the Australian morning show that broadcast the interview, who seemed deeply perplexed at the idea that 23 years of getting “Hey, Ace Ventura, go fuck yourself!” yelled at you on the daily might make someone a little more iffy on the intrinsic value of their personal identity or brand.
