WATCH: Small plane headed to N.J. makes emergency highway landing

NORTH BELLPORT, N.Y. -- A small plane that had taken off from a Long Island airport and was heading to New Jersey made an emergency landing on a highway.

The Federal Aviation Administration says the Cessna C206 made a "precautionary landing" on the westbound lane of Sunrise Highway in North Bellport Wednesday afternoon.

Police say there were no injuries. The pilot was the only person on board the plane and remained at the scene.

Video shows the plane gently landing on the highway, traveling underneath an overpass, and coming to a stop on a grassy shoulder as a police car pulls up.

The plane had taken off from nearby Brookhaven Calabro Airport in Shirley and was heading to Eagles Nest Airport in the West Creek section of Eagleswood in Ocean County.

It wasn't clear what caused the unexpected landing.
