NBC‘s chief medical editor Dr. Nancy Snyderman has apologized for violating the voluntary Ebola quarantine she and her team had placed themselves in after a trip to Liberia when the freelance photojournalist they were working with was diagnosed with the disease.
The team was then placed under a mandatory quarantine after the New Jersey Health Department said members of the team broke the voluntary agreement. But Snyderman herself has been under fire for her behavior after reports emerged of Snyderman violating the voluntary quarantine to visit a New Jersey restaurant.
Snyderman initially apologized for her team violating its voluntary quarantine, but now, almost two months later, she’s admitted that she herself broke the rules and apologized for that.

“I’m very sorry for … scaring my community and the country,” she said on Wednesday’s Today, later adding, “I stepped outside the boundaries of what I promised to do and what was expected of me, and for that I’m sorry.”
But she indicated that she felt confident she didn’t have Ebola and wasn’t at risk of spreading the disease.
“When I came back from Liberia with my team, we’d already been taking our temperatures four, five, six times a day, and we knew our risks in our heads, but didn’t really appreciate, and frankly we were not sensitive to how absolutely frightened Americans were,” she said, noting that she broke the voluntary quarantine she’d agreed to by leaving her home 72 hours later.
Ultimately, though, she thinks the controversy over her behavior has distracted people from the real issue of the Ebola epidemic.
