The Maker Faire in the San Francisco Bay Area, an annual smorgasbord of cool builds and projects, always has its fair share of working R2-D2 droids rolling around the event. But here's a cool new take on the beeping astromech.

Creator Tim walks you through the process of building what he calls "Steampunk R2-D2 half-scale." The frame is wooden, and there's a boat compass built into the front. The "eye" is made from an ornament from Hobby Lobby. It's a collection of random parts and pieces that comes together into a unique R2 tribute. Wonderful!
