Hear Lana Del Rey’s Somber New Song ‘Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind’
Lana Del Rey contemplates having a conversation with God on her new song “Coachella – Woodstock in My Mind.” Over a minimal electronic beat, the singer croons that she would “trade the fame and the fortune and the legend” to understand the world’s injustice.
The verses open with Del Rey soaking in the Coachella Festival: “I guess I was in it ’cause, baby, for a minute/ It was Woodstock in my mind.” But she switches gears after pondering, “What about all these children?/ And what about all their parents?/ And what about all their crowns they wear in hair so long like mine?”
Del Rey teased the song last month on Instagram with an a cappella snippet. She also detailed the song’s semi-political inspiration, writing, “I had complex feelings about spending the weekend dancing whilst watching tensions w North Korea mount.”
The singer didn’t specify whether “Coachella” will appear on her upcoming Lust for Life LP, which includes recently issued singles “Love” and the title-track (featuring the Weeknd). The album, out May 26th, will also reportedly include a collaboration with Stevie Nicks.
