New 'Powerpuff Girls' Adds Black Character to the Team

The Powerpuff team is adding a new member.

The Powerpuff crew of Buttercup, Bubbles, and Blossom will soon be joined by an all-new member. Cartoon Network will unveil the new member in the premiere of the five-part "movie event" Powerpuff Girls: Power of Four Sept. 17, Entertainment Weekly announced this week. Though Cartoon Network has only officially released the new characters silhouette on social media, singer Toya Delazy has revealed that she will be providing the latest Powerpuff recruit's voice.

After Delazy shared the good great news on Twitter and Instagram, Jamie Ondarza—Senior Vice President at Turner Broadcasting in Southern Europe and Africa—sent out a statement praising Delazy as the "perfect fit" for this next chapter in the Powerpuff Girls story. "Toya is definitely a perfect fit as the fourth Powerpuff Girl," Ondarza told NME. "She is confident, bubbly, and quirky, all the values that we are familiar with, love, and appreciate. We have a lot of surprises up our sleeves."

The name of Delazy's new character has not been announced. However, a Cartoon Network sizzle reel spotted by ComicBook Thursday appears to give fans an early look at a new character. Check it out below. The alleged Powerpuff Girls character is shown around the 1:42 mark.

This awesome addition to the Powerpuff Girls team has been met with widespread support from fans, though a few were quick to note the short-lived Bunny character:

Delazy's 2012 debut album, Due Drop, earned the Best Pop Album and Newcomer of the Year awards at the South African Music Awards. Last year, Delazy was tapped to do a localized South African version of the Powerpuff Girls theme song.
