Alabama practice report: Former 5-star recruit not spotted for second straight practice

Alabama completed its final two-a-day on a comfortable Monday night in Tuscaloosa.

Let's cut to the chase.

-- Former five-star cornerback Kendall Sheffield was not spotted for a second straight practice Monday evening. The Missouri City, Texas product did not see action in his true freshman season last fall but drew strong reviews from upper classmen like Cyrus Jones.

-- Linebacker Keith Holcombe wasn't doing all the drills after missing some practice time last week.

-- When the defense ran through nickel, the cornerbacks remained Marlon Humphrey and Anthony Averett. Eddie Jackson and Ronnie Harrison were the first-group safeties with Minkah Fitzpatrick at Star.

-- With the second team, Tony Brown and freshman Aaron Robinson were the cornerbacks with Hootie Jones at safety and Shyheim Carter at Star. Holcombe and Mack Wilson were the middle linebackers.

-- Harrison had a nice one-handed catch on a pass when the safeties were warming up. It was good enough to get teammates hollering from other positional groups.

-- Players were in helmets/shoulder pads for the second practice of the day.
