Sandeep Bharadwaj told Global News that police explained they would not be investigating the theft because they did not have access to cameras used by the train station and could not determine a suspect.

A spokesperson for EXO, the former Réseau de transport métropolitain (RTM), told Global News they recommend people always file a report with customer service in addition to filing a police report.

“We will then reach out to the SPVM with the information provided by the customer or the SPVM will reach out to us,” EXO said in a statement.

“We will send along whatever video footage or other pertinent information deemed necessary by police.”

After Global News spoke to EXO, the company reached out to Bharadwaj to apologize, open a file for his case and give him a reference number.

“Now I need to pass on the information to police,” Bharadwaj said. “From there, we will see if anything comes of this.”

EXO added filing a report with it does not guarantee an investigation by Montreal police.

Global News reached out to Montreal police, who said they would be in touch about Bharadwaj’s case.
