As Twitchy told you earlier, a BBC reporter helped get the ball rolling on a story that turned out to be totally bogus:
A short clip that sums up this G7 summit: look who has chosen not to hear a translation of his Italian host's speech #G6 pic.twitter.com/6pXbBlfvof
— James Landale (@BBCJLandale) May 27, 2017
The story was debunked not soon after the latest bit of #FakeNews started spreading like wildfire:
Trump was indeed listening to foreign leaders via a translation earpiece.
White House not happy there was false reporting otherwise. https://t.co/t589XTIhP5— Jennifer Jacobs (@JenniferJJacobs) May 27, 2017
White House says that Donald Trump wears an ear piece in his right ear for translation https://t.co/kquwUeSi6k
— James Landale (@BBCJLandale) May 27, 2017
As usual @POTUS wears a single ear piece for translation in his right ear https://t.co/Opm2qk1hOQ
— Stephanie Grisham (@PressSec) May 27, 2017
But that didn’t stop NBC News’ Andrea Mitchell from running with it in a reply to Trump snark from a HuffPo reporter:
Trump obviously speaks fluent Italian so there is no need for headphones for translation https://t.co/CTq0N5iJu2

Maybe he will read translation later:) https://t.co/iyjCvM9E08

#JOURNALISM! It was just last month that Mitchell said of the Trump administration “I have never seen anything like this where people flat-out lie.”
@samsteinhp you guys will correct, right? https://t.co/nqAH9N1PFs

I wonder if NBC News' Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent / anchor will correct / update her comment to maintain her credibility? https://t.co/KCIFKPqpzc

As of the time this story was posted, there was no correction or retraction in Mitchell’s Twitter feed.
