WESTFIELD -- Lifeguards at the Westfield Memorial Pool had to resuscitate a girl Saturday in an incident that remains under investigation, a township official said.

A doctor and a nurse who were visiting the pool assisted the lifeguards in reviving the elementary school-age child, Mayor Andrew Skibitsky said in a statement.

The girl was pulled from the pool Saturday around 4:20 p.m., Westfield Police Chief David Wayman told Tapinto.net

Skibitsky said the girl was transported to a hospital for further treatment. No details were released on the girl's condition as of Sunday.

Skibisky said he could not comment on details of the incident because of the ongoing investigation.

The pool was open Sunday, and a counselor was at the facility for any staff or visitor, the mayor said.

"I ask all residents to please join me in sending our thoughts and prayers to this young girl and her family," Skibitsky said.
