On Monday afternoon the funeral for Freddie Gray took place in Baltimore, Maryland. Gray died last week from spinal injuries suffered while in Baltimore Police custody. After the funeral, against the wishes of the Gray family, some peaceful demonstrations took place, but other protests became violent, devolving into chaotic clashes, and resulting in numerous injuries to police officers, smashed storefronts, burned cars, and widespread looting. Governor Larry Hogan has declared a state of emergency, activating the Maryland National Guard, and the scheduled baseball game between the Baltimore Orioles and Chicago White Sox has been postponed.
