Prince Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, has described herself as “the luckiest girl in the world” and admitted she is a “brash American” who likes to have her say.

Miss Markle also said she worries about the “sexiness factor” of the character she plays in the US TV drama Suits, and avoids too many skin-tight outfits because her mother always told her “never give the milk away for free”.

The 35-year-old divorcee has been dating Prince Harry, 32, since the summer and sources have said their relationship has been serious since August.

Miss Markle’s profile has gone stratospheric since news of the relationship broke at the weekend, and by happy coincidence, she stands to benefit from the worldwide publicity when her own clothing range goes on sale tomorrow.

It means the actress could take the “Kate effect” to another level: rather than driving sales of other people’s fashion when she is photographed wearing a particular outfit, like the Duchess of Cambridge, she is in a position to boost sales of her own clothing ranges if she is photographed in public wearing them.

Miss Markle has put her name to a capsule wardrobe collection that she helped design for the Canadian clothes store Reitmans.

The “accessible” five-piece collection comprises a cashmere poncho, faux leather trousers, a faux leather skirt, a silk blouse and a bodysuit.

All are expected to sell out, as her first clothing collection for the store, of spring dresses, was a huge success earlier this year.

While cynics might question the timing of her emergence as the Prince’s new girlfriend, the official launch of the Meghan Markle Collection had already happened days before she was first publicly linked to the Prince.

She posted pictures of herself wearing the clothes on her Instagram social networking page, which has more than one million followers, and had already carried out interviews to promote the clothing.

The Californian, who has been a brand ambassador for the store for a year, told the Vancouver Sun that after she finishes filming the current season of Suits in the middle of this month, she will spend December “seeing my family and travelling”.

Whether that will include staying with Prince Harry she did not say, but in January she will spend two weeks in India as part of her work as a global ambassador for the charity World Vision, before filming on another series of Suits begins in Toronto in March.

She said: “My cup runneth over and I’m the luckiest girl in the world!”

She told the Toronto Star that her “accessible” clothes range is “totally an extension of my personal style”, which she describes as “Aspirational Girl Next Door”.

Discussing her sometimes racy costumes in Suits, she said: "Yes, those pencil skirts on the show are fit within an exhale, but I fight to get that paired with a men’s oversized shirt for balance.”

She explained that her mother Doria, a yoga instructor always told her to "never give the milk away for free".

Nothing in the range costs more than £60, which she said was important to her because: “I was not a girl who grew up buying $100 candles. I was the girl who ran out of gas on her way to an audition.”

She added that she was “deeply and passionately involved in the design process. I’m a brash American and if my name is going to be on something, I’m going to have my say”.
